[Fuh-mi] Kakejiku - Hagakure Calligraphy

This hanging scroll presents one of the most famous lines from Hagakure (“Hidden by the Leaves”), a seminal text of samurai philosophy:

「武士道と云ふは死ぬ事と見つけたり」(Bushidō to iu wa shinu koto to mitsuketari) “Bushidō is found in death.”

Often misunderstood, this statement is not a call for senseless sacrifice. Rather, it reflects the deep inner clarity of one who has already accepted death, and thus can act without fear, hesitation, or regret. It is a teaching of presence and resolve.

Calligrapher Fuh-mi renders this phrase not in bold strokes but in a quiet, deliberate style, echoing the calm conviction of a mind that has settled on its path. The refined spacing and subtle movement of the characters evoke the inner discipline of the samurai spirit.
