Mushin Tenugui

Mushin Tenugui

Mushin Tenugui

Made in Japan
Color: White or Navy

This traditional Tenugui (Japanese hand towel) can be used as such in Kendo, Nippon Kempo or Jukendo but also as small towel to wipe off sweat during practice.
In the center is the Japanese expression "Mushin", which has a meaningful value in any martial arts but is particularly well known by Kendoka.

Mushin (無心) is a mental state often translated as no mind in English but the translation does not reflect the profound meaning of the expression well.
Mushin is a state of mind free of thoughts of anger, fear or ego. It does not mean that there are no thoughts at all, but those thoughts are perfectly focused on the task at hand and free of emotions that cloud influence one's judgment.
Often experienced during hard practice / Shiai by practitioners, the final goal of any Budoka is to conserve this state of mind at all time.

Please hand-wash in cold water before first use.

External resource: the origin of the Tenugui (off site).

  • 100% Cotton
  • Traditional size : 98 x 34 cm
  • Traditional "Honzome" dye, meaning a dye that deeply penetrates the fiber, resulting in a color that is well fixed.
