Tsubanashi Bokken, Jo & Tanto [Aikido Set]

Tsubanashi Bokken, Jo & Tanto [Aikido Set]

Tsubanashi Bokken, Jo & Tanto Set - White Oak

Made in Japan (Kyushu)

Available in white oak.

This set includes a high quality tsubanashi bokken (white oak), a classic jo (2 diameters to choose from), and a tanto. Each weapon is made from a single piece of wood from the southern islands of Kyushu (Japan).

The "Superior Tsubanashi Bokken" is manufactured in a single piece of white oak from the southern islands of Kyushu (Japan). The design developed by the Seido team remains resolutely classic in its general form with the deletion of the line between the Tsuka and blade allowing a grip on a much larger portion of the bokken (but prohibiting the use made of a tsuba). This particular finish will be useful to Aikido practitioners who do not use Tsuba and are hindered by the line when the distance between the hands is important.

White oak is thoroughly selected, notably more dense (and dark) than on the standard model.

The standard thickness of a Jo is 24 mm (8 bu) and the 27, and 30 mm models are designed to work tanren (reinforcement), which is very important in some Aikido schools. The 27 mm model is very strong, which also makes it a great Jo practice with very violent contacts.

  • Choice of wood species: white oak.
  • Contains: Tsubanashi Bokken, Classic Jo and Deluxe Tanto.
  • Jo Diameter: 24 mm (8bu), 27 mm (9bu).
  • Available finish: Standard Finish or Seido Special Finish.
  • Manufacturing workshop: Aramaki

Finish options:

In 2021, with concerns for the workers, all workshops greatly reduced the number of urethane-varnished weapons and replaced the finish with "Candle Wax". Seido is now transitioning to a new finish offer for the majority of its weapons.

Standard Finish: At Seido, we complete the workshop finish with Camelia oil treatment by default. This is the standard Seido finish.
We do not apply any additional polishing for this finish, so some weapons might have a slightly rough surface.
For maintenance, we recommend that you oil your weapons about once a month with a vegetal-based oil.

Seido Special Finish: For this special Finish, we first apply a Camelia oil polish (oiling and sanding the weapons with oiled sandpaper), then we finish the weapon with high-quality beeswax. This finish makes the wood as smooth as it can be and guarantees excellent protection for several months.
For maintenance, we recommend at least to oil your weapons every month or so. You can also apply wax a few hours after oiling your weapons (if some oil remains on the wood, remove it with a piece of cloth or tissue).
